3rd I invites you to a special screening of WGBH and KQEDs Frontline/World series, presenting reports from the frontlines of Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka.

Joe Rubin, correspondent for Frontline/World, who spent 6 weeks in Sri Lanka documenting the ethnic conflict, will be present to discuss his experience following the screenings.

BHUTAN: THE LAST PLACE (10 minutes)

Explores the impact of cable television, introduced for the first time to the people of this Himalayan Kingdom, the last country to legalize television. While people around the nation now celebrate their window into the outside world, others are more skeptical about TV’s influence on Bhutan’s younger generation.

INDIA: HOLE IN THE WALL (8 minutes)

A new look at education where children in rural Maharashtra are given free and unrestricted access to the internet with outdoor internet kiosks. The experiment in self instruction was found to be successful in enhancing creativity in the learning process

SRI LANKA: LIVING WITH TERROR( 15 minutes)

Twenty years of civil strife between the Tamil Tigers and the Sri Lankan Army have had an indelible impact on this small island of exquisite beauty, spirituality and cultural diversity. In Colombo, Joe Rubin gets the inside story from survivors of violence on both sides of the ethnic conflict who are a strong voice for peace in a war torn nation.

Joe Rubin is an accomplished video journalist / correspondent. Amongst his other achievements in print and radio, Rubin produced the ABC Nightline documentary, "Serbia's Winter of Discontent" and has had assignments with National Geographic and New York Times Television.
