3rd i NY and Alwan for the Arts Collaborative Monthly Film & Video Series presents encore presentation of Saudi Arabian feature film:

This is the first Saudi Arabian feature film to be screened in the USA and one of two Saudi Arabian features ever made!

We are screening this film a second time due to interest and demand stemming from recent NY Times article regarding how the director of this film couldn't get a visa to attend the NY Arab & South Asian film festival. The irony is that this film is a blazing critique of repressive Arab regimes in the form of a futuristic thriller! The US government makes yet another farcical PR gaff in "the battle to win hearts and minds," but then again, what else would you expect?

About the Film

Director: Abdullah Al Muheisen. Saudi Arabia, 110 min, Arabic with English subtitles

In an unnamed Arab country in the near future, a woman searches for her husband, who has been confined to a government institution established in order to manufacture unthinking citizens. She enlists the help of Bedouin tribesmen, and they set out to free her husband and the rest of those in custody in the institution. This is a sure-footed first feature by Saudi director Abdullah Al Muheisen.

Breaking out of "World Cinema" aesthetics, this is a breath of fresh air in terms of style and pacing. At once erudite and thrilling, politically hard-hitting and entertaining, don't miss this path-breaking film that heralds good things for emergence of filmmaking in the Gulf.
